Obverse die crack from bust point to rim

Broken and Repaired E of STATES

Reverse pivot hub doubling

Reverse die crack from rim at 3:00

Comments:  Date placement is C.  Rick Snow indicates that the E of STATES has been broken and repaired on this obverse.  However,  I have personally seen 4 examples of this die marriage and the anomaly the E has is a notch at the top right and this is not consistent with what is usually seen on other obverse working dies hubbed from the working hub with a broken E.  Die stage B is observed with a die crack from the tip of the bust to the rim at 7:30.

The reverse shows class V pivot hub doubling with counterclockwise rotation and a pivot point at 11:00.  There is a small die crack from the rim at 3:00 to the oak wreath, where it terminates at 3:30 on the outside oak leaf.

Plate Coin:  D. Poliquin collection, XF40
