Reverse AAC Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 55 is identified by date placement at B, die lines in front of and through the ear and Class II Hub Doubling of 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'.

Reverse AAC has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Light die crack from the rim at 2:15 extends upward through the outer edge of the right wreath.
2.  Light die crack from die crack #1 at 2:00 extends downward through the right wreath to the acorn at 3:00.
3.  Light die crack from the denticles at 3:00 extends downward through the oak leaves and along the lower edge of the middle arrowhead.
4.  Die crack from the rim at 8:30 extends downward through the lowest oak leaf and olive leaves to the lowest olive leaf.
5.  Light die crack from the denticles at 8:30 extends upward through the left wreath.

Comments:  Variety 53 may be characterized by a minor hub doubled obverse with die lines in front of and through the ear and a lightly cracked reverse.

Obverse 55 features minor Class II Hub Doubling, with the doubling of 'UNI(TED) and 'STATES' being the strongest.  The Obverse 55 die lines are minor in severity in front of the ear of Mis Liberty, while the die lines that extend through the ear are quite bold in comparison, with one extending through the opening of the ear.

Reverse AAC developed light die cracking, with the most severe crack extending from 8:30 into the olive leaves.

Variety 53 exhibits a difference in die state between Obverse 55 and Reverse AAC, with Obverse 55 exhibiting a slightly later die state than Reverse AAC.  The difference in die state may indicate that Obverse 55 was in service prior to the Variety 53 Die Pairing.

Variety 53 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during mid May 2021 for inclusion in this book based on the die lines of Obverse 55.  Upon examination of David's coin, I was able to identify an additional Obverse 55 attribute in the form of hub doubling.
