Reverse V Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 19 is identified by date placement at C and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the northwest above the base of the 1, to the north within the lower loop of the 8, to the south below the base of the 6 and to the south below the crossbar of the 4.  Obverse 19 is observed with a working hub artifact between 'S(TA)TES' and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack segment connects the tops of 'AMER(IC)A'.
2.  Die crack segment from the base of the 4 extends diagonally upward through the 6 and 4.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 7:00 extends upward parallel to '(U)NITED, then extends across to the bust point.
4.  Die crack segment connects the tops of '(UNITE)D'.
5.  Die crack segment connects the tops of ''(STA)TES'.
6.  Radial die crack from the rim at 11:00 extends downward between 'STA(TE)S'.
Obv. 19.2:  Obverse 19 has developed a die break located below the nose and to the right of the lips of Miss Liberty.
Obv. 19.3:  The 19.2 die break has now enlarged and obliterates the design features of the lips of Miss Liberty.

Reverse V has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 12:30 extends downward into the top right of the shield.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 3:15 extends into the right wreath.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 5:15 extends upward into the wreath stem.
4.  Die crack from the rim at 8:15 extends into the lowest oak leaf of the left wreath.
5.  Die crack from the rim at 9:30 extends into the left wreath.
6.  Die crack from the rim at 10:30 extends downward into the left wreath.

Comments:  Varieties 13a and 13b are very scarce to extremely scarce, with the scarcity most likely attributed to the subsequent retirement of Obverse 19 from service following the development of the Obverse 19.3 die break..

Obverse 19 and Reverse V differ in die state, with Obverse 19 exhibiting moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines and Reverse V featuring heavier die flow lines.  The difference in die state between Obverse 19 and Reverse V indicates Reverse V was in service prior to Variety 13.

The Obverse 19.2 die break has been given the moniker 'Mustache' by Rick Snow due to the similarity to a mustache.
