1864 Copper Nickel Variety 1

Obverse 2

Reverse B

Obverse Diagnostics

Repunching on the 1 to the South and 64 to the West

*Close-up of date is courtesy of the Flying Eagle and Indian Cent Attribution Guide by Rick Snow.*

Comments:  Date placement is C.  Obverse 2 is observed with repunching to the south on the 1 and repunching to the west on the 86.  The apparent repunching to the south on the crossbar of th 4 is actually an artifact from the digit punch.  During die stage B, obverse 2 develops a die crack from 5:30 to the base of the 4.

Reverse B is yet to be observed with any die markers during its pairing with obverse 2.

Plate Coin:  none available
