Die Cracking and Breakage Between 3:00 and 5:00

Retained Cud Between 4:45 and 5:00

Obverse 11 is observed with date placement at RE.

Reverse K has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 11:45 extends downward through the horizontal shield bars and continues into the right wreath.
2.  Moderately heavy die crack from the rim at 3:00 extends downward through the outer edge of the oak leaves, middle and lower arrowheads, right ribbon end and wreath stem, where it exits into the rim at 5:00. A small die break has developed  between the right ribbon end and lower arrowhead.
Rev. K.2:  Reverse K has now developed a retained cud between 4:45 and 5:00.

Comments:  Variety 7 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the Variety 7a Plate Coin during early September 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the Reverse K retained cud.

During mid May 2021, David Killough submitted a second example of Variety 7 that featured Reverse K in an eariler die state prior to the formation of the retained cud between 4:45 and 5:00.  This earlier Reverse K die state reveals the extent of the die cracking between 4:45 and 5:00 prior to the Reverse K.2 retained break.
