Reverse AC Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 30 is observed with date placement located at left half of denticle and broken first 8, second 8 and 0 digits. Obverse 30 is in an advanced die state with the presence of heavy die flow lines.

Reverse AC is rotated 5 degrees clockwise and has cracked. Reverse AC is in a similar advanced die state as Obverse 30 with the presence of heavy die flow lines.

Comments: Variety 28 was first identified by John Grimmer, who submitted the above plate coin during late May 2026 based on the unusual breakge of the 0 digit.

The Obverse 30 broken 0 digit is unusual since the digit punch deterioration usually seen for 1880 cents includes the 0 digit broken at the lower left. The 8 digits of Obverse 30 break at the exact location and manner as usually seen for 1880 cents struck from a working die that was impressed with the deteriorated digit punch.

1880 cents with the 0 of the date broken in the fashion as Obverse 30 are seeminly rare since I am only aware of the above plate coin and the Snow 3d plate coin.
