Obverse 9 is identified by date placement at RE and date repunching that features an initial date impression to the north above the top of the first 1 of the date.  Obverse 9 has developed very heavy die flow lines.

Reverse I has developed light to moderately heavy die flow lines in contrast to Obverse 9.  Reverse I has acquired clash marks through the C of CENT and to the right of the T of CENT.  In addition, Reverse I is observed with die roughness above the shield and between the left wreath and the shield.

Comments:  The contrasting die states of Obverse 9 and Reverse I indicate that Obverse 9 was in service prior to Variety 5.

Variety 5 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during mid January 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 9 date repunching.
