Obverse 28 is identified by date placement at LE with repunching to the west on the first 1, Microscopic repunching to the south on the 8 and repunching to the south on the last 1.  Obverse 28 has developed light die flow lines and has acquired light clash marks in front of the eye of Miss Liberty and above the feathers from a clashing event with reverse AB.

Reverse AB is in a similar die state as obverse 28, with the advancement of light flow lines.  Reverse AB has acquired clash marks to the right of the T of CENT and through the C of CENT from a clashing event with obverse 28.

Comments:  As evidenced by the repunching elements on the high points of the 1, the initial digit impression of the 1 was tilted clockwise.  Higher grade and/or earlier die state examples may show show additional repunching on the high points of the 8 also.

Variety 25 was first identified by David Killough, who kindly submitted the above discovery piece for publication in this book.  David's coin is the plate coin for 1891 Snow 24 and I am very pleased to have it reside as the plate coin here.

Plate coin:  David Killough Collection, XF45
