Reverse G Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 7 is identified by minor class II hub doubling on the legend and date placement at LH with date repunching that features initial date impressions to the east within the lower loop of the 8 and to the east within the upper and lower loops of the 9.  Obverse 7 acquired clash marks in front of the face of Miss Liberty and above the first three feathers from a clashing event with Reverse G.  Obverse 7 has developed light to moderately heavy die flow lines and the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 2:30 connecting the tops of OF.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 4:30 connecting MERIC of AMERICA and merging with die crack #1.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 4:45 connecting the digit bases of the date.  Another crack splits from this die crack at 5:00 and connects CA of AMERICA.
4.  Die crack from the rim at 7:00 connecting UNITE of UNITED.
5.  Die crack from the bust point through the U of UNITED and merging with die crack #4.

Reverse G is is rotated 9 degrees clockwise and features class II hub doubling on the wreath veins in the right wreath.  Reverse G is in a similar die state as Obverse 7, with the advancement of light to moderately heavy die flow lines.  Reverse G has acquired clash marks through the C of CENT and to the right of the denomination from a clashing event with Obverse 7.  Reverse G exhibits die polish lines through the central denomination and develops the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 3:00 downward through the wreath to the middle arrowhead.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 5:00 upward through the wreath stem, ribbon knot and oak leaves.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 8:00 through the olive leaves.  Another die crack extends from this die crack within the wreath at 8:00 and extends upward through the wreath to 9:00.
4.  Light die crack from the rim at 9:30 into the wreath.
5.  Light die crack from the rim at 10:30 into the wreath.
6.  Light die crack from the rim at 11:15 into the wreath.
7.  Die crack from the rim at 11:30 into the top of the shield.

Comments:  During late July 2017, David Killough submitted the above coin for inclusion in this book for the purpose of supplying a plate coin for Variety 4.  Although Variety 4 has been known for many years, this author discovered that Obverse 7 features minor class II hub doubling on the legend and the presence of an initial date impression within the lower loop of the 8 that was previously unidentifed. The Obverse 7 hub doubling is mostly evident on the upper half of the die and found on ED STATES OF AMER.
