Die File Marks From The Denticles at 7:00

Obverse 21 is identified by date placement at LH and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the south below the flag of the 1, to the south below the right side of the upper loop of the 8, to the south within the lower loop of the 9 and to the south within the lower loop of the 3.  Obverse 21 is also observed with a prominent die polish line through TES of STATES.

Reverse U is observed with die file marks from the denticles at 7:00.

Comments:  The Obverse 21 date repunching is the result of a pivot of the digit punch, with the initial date impression positioned slightly clockwise with respect to the final date impression.  Although the initial date impressions of Obverse 21 look unusual in comparison to the usually seen date repunching, they are all associated with the initial date impression.

Variety 19 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during mid January 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 21 date repunching.
