1895 Variety 6

Obverse 11

Reverse J

Obverse Diagnostics

Date Position

Repunched 895

Obverse 11 is identified by date placement at LH and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the east within and outside the lower loop of the 8; to the east within and outside the lower loop of the 9; to the east within and outside the lower loop of the 5.

Reverse J has yet to be observed with any die markers.

Comments:  The Obverse 11 initial date impressions to the east outside the lower bases of the 895 digits of the date were not previously identified in Snow's book, but identified here due to the high grade of the above plate coin compared to the low grade discovery piece, which was graded F15.

Rick Snow was extremely kind in granting permission to me to use his images to illustrate Variety 6 for this book.  The above plate coin represents the finest known example of this die pairing thus far.
