Date Position

Misplaced Digits (Click Image To Enlarge)

Obverse 17 is identified by date placement at RH and the tops of two misplaced digits in the denticles located between the primary 9 and final 8 as well as below the primary final 8 of the date.  Obverse 17 has developed moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines.

Reverse R is rotated 5 degrees clockwise and is in a similar die state as Obverse 17, with the advancement of moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines.

Comments:  The Obverse 17 misplaced digit located in the denticles between the primary 9 and final 8 of the date was previously unidentified prior to publication in this book.  It is much less conspicuous than the accompanying misplaced digit below the final 8 of the date and does not appear to be associated with the misplaced digit punch impression that created the misplaced digit below the final 8. Therefore, Obverse 17 may have received more than one digit punch impression into the denticles.  In addition to the previous statement, it should be noted that there appears to be two separate impressions of the misplaced digit below the final 8 of the date.
