Clash Mark Through The C Of CENT

Obverse 47 is identified by date placement at RH, a working die artifact under the ninth feather and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the south and east within the lower loop of the 9 and to the southeast at the bottom right within the lower loop of the last 8.  Obverse 47 has developed heavy die flow lines and has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AV.

Reverse AV is in a similar die state as Obverse 47, with the advancement of heavy die flow lines.  Reverse AV has acquired a clash mark through the C of CENT from a clashing event with Obverse 47.

Comments:  Obverse 47 appears to have been impressed with two separate initial digit punch impressions to the southeast, with one impression slightly to the southeast and a second one farther in comparison.  It should be noted that the initial date impression within the lower loop of the final 8 is from the inside left of the lower loop of the 8.

Variety 42 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during mid May 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 47 date repunching.  David's submission included three examples of Variety 42, with all exhibiting similar die states.
