Clash Mark Through The C Of CENT

Obverse 50 is identified by date placement at LH and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the east within the lower loop of the first 8 and to the east within the lower loop of the 9.  Obverse 50 has developed moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines and has acquired clash marks in front of the eye and between feathers 7-9 from a clashing event with Reverse AY.

Reverse AY is in a similar die state as Obverse 50, with the advancement of moderately heavy to heavy die flow lines.  Reverse AY has acquired clash marks through the C of CENT and to the right of the denomination from a clashing event with Obverse 50.

Comments:  The Obverse 50 initial date impression within the lower loop of the first 8 is visible as a small nub, whereas the initial date impression within the lower loop of the 9 is visible in the approximate center of the loop.

Variety 45 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during mid May 2018 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 49 date repunching.
