Reverse
AE exhibits die rust by the T of CENT and has acquired clash marks to
the right of the denomination and through the C of CENT.

was extremely kind in supplying images of the above plate coin to
illustrate Variety 31. What I have gleaned from the images is
that Reverse AE has acquired clash marks. However, it does not
appear that Obverse 30 has acquired any clash marks. If Obverse
30 lacks clash marks, then there is a strong possibility that Reverse
AE was in service prior to the Variety 31 die pairing.
