Hub Doubling In Left Wreath

Hub Doubling In Left Wreath

Die Rust

Obverse 15 is observed with date placement at RE.  Obverse 15 has developed moderately heavy die flow lines and has acquired a light clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse P.

Reverse P is identified by Class II hub doubling on the wreath veins and outside edges of the outer oak leaves in the left wreath between 8:00 and 10:30.  Reverse P may also be identified by a localized area of die rust on the inner oak leaf to the left of the C of CENT.  Reverse P is in a similar die state as Obverse 15, with the advancement of moderately heavy die flow lines.  Reverse P has acquired a light clash mark through the C of CENT from a clashing event with Obverse 15.

Comments:  Though the Reverse P Class II hub doubling is relatively minor, the doubling is unmistakably the product of a genuine doubled die.
