Obverse 80 is identified by date placement at B and date repunching
that features initial date impressions to the southwest within the
lower loop of the 9, to the north within the 0 and to the north above
the 7. Obverse 80 has developed light die flow lines and a light clash
mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with
Reverse AAAA.
Reverse AAAA is in a similar die state as Obverse 80, with the
advancement of light die flow lines. Reverse AAAA has acquired a
light clash mark through the C of CENT from a clashing event with
Obverse 80.
Comments: Die roughness
appears in the lower section of the 0 of the date and appears to have
been an effort by the Mint to efface something from the working die.
Variety
78 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above
plate coin during late July 2018 for inclusion in this book based on
the date repunching of Obverse 80.
