Obverse 84 is identified by date placement at B and date repunching
that features an initial date impression to the east within the lower
loop of the 9 and a raised area located at the bottom within the 0 that
forms a V shape that could be additional initial date impressions.
Obverse 84 has developed moderately heavy die flow lines.
Reverse AAAE is in a similar die state as Obverse 84, with the
advancement of moderately heavy die flow lines.
Comments: Though the V
shaped anomaly within the 0 did not correspond to the curvature of the
0, the artifact could possibly be the result of two separate initial
date impressoins, with one located to the northeast and the other
located to the northwest with respect to the final date placement of
the 0. This theory may explain the V shape within the 0, rather
than a curvature shaped initial date impression that would be expected
from an initial date impression of the 0 to the north.
Variety 82 was first identified by David Killough,
who submitted the above plate coin during mid November 2018 for
inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 84 date repunching.
