Retained Cud Between 3:00 and 4:15

Reverse W.2 Cud Between 3:00 and 4:15

Obverse 23 is observed with date placement at C.

Reverse W was struck from misaligned working dies and develops a retained cud between 3:00 and 4:15.
Rev. W.2:  The retained break is now absent, which has resulted in an increase in demand for metal to fill the void left behind.

Comments:  The Reverse W cud is similar to the cud of Reverse AR from the 1862 Variety 42 Die Pairing.

Variety 21 was first identified by Pine Tree Coin and Jewelry during early June 2016.  Pine Tree Coin and Jewelry were very kind in allowing me to use their images to illustrate variety 21 for this book.

Variety 21a was first identified by this author during mid June 2019.
