Die Crack from 10:30 to 12:30

Obverse 25 is observed with date placement at LE and broken ES of STATES.  The broken ES is a result of the working hub, which hubbed obverse 25, having the ES of STATES broken.

Reverse AA develops a severe die crack from the rim at 10:30 and continuing through the shield to the rim at 12:30.  The following die state has been observed for reverse AA:
AAa:  Reverse rotation of 25 degrees counter clockwise.

Comments:  I have observed no other additional die degradation for both obverse and reverse, so the die crack of reverse AA may have developed quite early.  Considering the severity of the die crack, I would assume a cud will form in the area defined by this crack.

Hub deterioration in the form of the broken ES of STATES is noted on many dies from 1860 through 1864.  Since the lettering on the hub is raised, these letters will break from forces exerted on the hub during countless hubbings of working dies.

Plate Coin: Kyle Vermeer, VF20
