Obverse 84 is identified by date placement at C, an artifact connecting
the lower and top loops of the 6 and date repunching that features
initial date impression to the north within the lower loop and above
the lower ball of the 3.
Reverse AAAK is rotated 16 degrees clockwise and has developed the
following die cracks:
1. Die crack from the rim at 12:30 downward through the
horizontal shield bars and into the vertical shield bars.
2. Heavy die crack from the rim at 8:15 upward through the
left wreath to the rim at 9:30.
3. Moderately heavy die crack from die crack #1 at 8:15
downward through the olive leaves.
4. Moderately heavy die crack from the rim at 11:00 downward
through the left wreath and merging with die crack #1 within the wreath
at 9:30.
5. Die crack within the left wreath from 10:00 extends
upward, intersecting die crack #4 at 10:15 and continuing diagonally
and upward to a point at 10:30. Rev. AAAK.2:
The Reverse AAAK die cracking has become more severe.
Comments: Variety
87 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above
Variety 87 Plate Coin and 87a Plate Coin below during late August 2019 for inclusion in this
book based on the die cracking of Reverse AAAK. Upon examination of
David's submissions, I was able to identify an Obverse 84 die attribute
in the form of date repunching.
The Variety 87 die rotation is most likely a static rotational
atrribute of this die pairing.
