Reverse AAAW has developed the following die crack:
1. Die crack from the rim at 6:15 extends upward through the
left ribbon end, olive leaves and the outer edge of the first oak leaf,
where it enters the rim at 8:15. A lighter die crack splits
from the aforementioned die crack at the top of the upper olive leaf,
where it continues along the outer edge of the first oak leaf and exits
the rim at 8:15.
Comments:
Several 1863 reverses crack in a similar manner and location
as Reverse AAAW. One similar reverse, which has developed a
large die break between 6:00 and 8:15, is Reverse AAAB from the 1863 Variety 78 Die Pairing.
Variety 99
was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate
coin during early January 2022 for inclusion in this book based on the
die cracking of Reverse AAAW.
