Die Crack from 5:00


Obverse 16 is identified by a die scratch through the eye and upper lip of Miss Liberty and a die chip near the right top of the L of LIBERTY.  Obverse 16 is observed with die polish lines.

Reverse AG is observed with clash marks to the right of the denomination.  Reverse AG is in an extended die state with textured surfaces resulting from metal flow.  Reverse AG develops the following die crack:
1.  Die crack from 5:00 into the wreath stem and ribbon knot.

Comments:  Obverse 16 will later be paired with reverse AM during the 1865 Fancy 5 variety 22 die pairing.

The obverse 16 die chip will fade during later die states, but the die scratch through the eye will remain visible.
