Reverse Q Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 16 is observed with date placement at LH and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the denticles at 12:30 extends downward through the tops of 'OF' and exits into the denticles at 2:30.
2.  Die crack from the denticles at 2:30 extends downward and intersects die crack #3 at the top of 'A(M)ERICA'.
3.  Die crack segment connects the tops of 'A(MERICA)'.
4.  Die crack from the rim at 7:15 extends to the right and connects the digit bases of the date.
5.  Die crack segment from the bust point extends diagonally upward to the bottom of '(U)NITED'.
6.  Die crack segment connects the tops of 'UNITED' and '(STATE)S'.
7.  Die crack from the rim at 10:30 extends downward and intersects die crack #6 at the top left of 'STA(T)ES'.

Type II Reverse Q is observed with bulging located at the lower right of (C)ENT and die lines that extend upward from the top and middle olive leaves.  Type II Reverse Q has acquired clash marks through (C)ENT and to the right of the denomination and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Moderately heavy die crack extends from die crack #2 along the outside edge of the right wreath at 3:30 and extends upward through the wreath to the denticles at 2:15.
2.  Heavy die crack from the rim at 3:15 extends downward through the lower oak leaves, middle and lower arrowheads, right ribbon end and wreath stem to the ribbon knot.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 8:15 extends downward through the olive leaves.  This die crack may be associated with die crack #2.

Comments:  1872 Type II Reverse Variety 16 represents the second usage of Obverse 16, which was previously in service paired with Type II Reverse P during the 1872 Type II Variety 15 Die Pairing.

1872 Type II Reverse Variety 16 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during mid May 2021 for inclusion in this book based on the die cracking of Obverse 16 and Type II Reverse Q.
