Clashing Orientation (Click Image To Enlarge)

Obverse 16 is identified by date placement at LH, artifacts extending downward from the jaw and lint hub-throughs within the denticles at various locations, with two prominent ones extending into the field from the denticles above 'S(TA)TES'.  Obverse 16 has acquired clash marks from a clashing event with Reverse O.

Reverse O is rotated 7 degrees counter clockwise and is identified by lint hub-throughs within the denticles above the shield and at various other locations within the denticles.  Reverse O has acquired clash marks from a clashing event with Obverse 16 and has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 3:00 extends downward along the outer oak leaves and middle and lower arrowheads, where it continues along the lower arrow shaft and through the ribbon knot, olive leaves and oak leaves of the left wreath.  A radial die crack extends from this die crack at the lower section of the lowest outer oak leaf of the right wreath, where it continues upward through CEN(T) and into O(N)E.
2.  Die crack from the denticles at 8:00 extends into the middle outer olive leaf.
3.  Die crack from the denticles at 10:45 extends downward through the left wreath.
4.  Die crack from the denticles at 11:30 extends into the top left of the shield.

Comments:  The 7 degree die rotation of Variety 15 is a static rotational attribute of this die pairing and was present during the clashing event between Obverse 16 and Reverse O.

Variety 15 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during early January 2022 for inclusion in this book based on the Obverse 16 artifacts under the jaw of Miss Liberty.
