1882 Variety 5

Obverse 8

Reverse G

Obverse Diagnostics

Date Position

Cud between 7:45 and 9:30

Reverse Diagnostics

Die Crack from 6:30

Obverse 8 has developed a cud between 7:45 and 9:30 and is observed with date placement at C.

Reverse G has developed the following die crack:
1.  Die crack from the denticles at 6:30 into the left side of the ribbon end.

Comments:  Reverse G will exhibit weakness of strike within the denticle area between 9:00 and 10:00 due to the increased demand for metal to fill the void of the Obverse 8 die break.

Variety 5 was first identified by David Miholer during late February 2017.  Mr. Miholer was extremely kind in granting me permission to use his images to illustrate variety 5 for this book.

Plate Coin:  David Miholer, F15
