1882 Variety 8

Obverse 11

Reverse J

Obverse Diagnostics

Date Position

Broken Top and Repunched 2

Misplaced 2 In The Denticles

Obverse 11 is identified by date placement at B with date repunching that features an initial date impression to the east next to the ball of the 2 and a misplaced 2 in the denticles below the right side of the 8.

Reverse J was struck from misaligned working dies.

Comments:  The Obverse 11 misplaced 2 digit was the result of an initial digit punch impression that was positioned to the southwest and rotated counter clockwise with respect to the final date placement.

Obverse 11 was impressed with a digit punch that exhibited a slightly broken top on the 2.  Since the break occurred on the digit punch, then other 1882 obverse working dies impressed wth this digit punch will feature this break.
