Obverse 18 is identified by date placement at B and date repunching that features initial date impressions within the lower loop of the 9 and above the 0.  Obverse 18 is observed with die polish lines and light die flow lines.
Obv. 18.2:  The Obverse 18 working die flow lines have now become more severe.

Reverse R is in a similar die state as Obverse 18, with the advancement of light die flow lines and the presence of die polish lines.
Rev. R.2:  The Reverse R working die flow lines have now become more severe.

Comments:  The initial date impressions within the lower loop of the 9, which were not identified in the initial attribution of this die pairing by Rick Snow, appear as a raised area and not as distinct as the initial date impressions above the 9.  The initial date impressions of Obverse 18 were likely the result of an initial digit punch impression that was counter clockwise with respect to the final date placement.

During the Variety 16a Die State, Variety 16 develops more severe working die flow lines.  However, Variety 16 has yet to experience working die clashing or die cracking.
