Clash Marks To The Left Of The Denomination

Obverse 51 is observed with date placement at B, the beginning of a small die break within the upper loop of the second 9 and an artifact within the lower loop of the second 9.  Obverse 51 has developed heavy die flow lines and has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AY.

Reverse AY is in a similar die state as Obverse 51, with the advancement of heavy die flow lines.  Reverse AY has acquired clash marks through (C)ENT and to the left of the denomination from a clashing event with Obverse 51.

Comments:  Obverse 51 exhibits the start of a small die break within the upper loop of the second 9, though later die state examples of Variety 47 will be necessary to determine if this develops into a larger break as seen on two other 1899 obverses.

I do not suspect that the artifact within the lower loop of the second 9 is an initial date impression artifact.  A similar artifact is evident in the lower loop of the second 9 of the Snow 38 Pairing, which exhibits a larger die break within the upper loop of the second 9 compared to the above plate coin.  The following compares the Obverse 51 second 9 and the second 9 of the Snow 38 Die Pairing, which was taken from the December 2019 Longacre's Ledger:
