Clash Mark Through The C Of CENT


Obverse 71 is identified by date placement at C and date repunching that features initial date impressions to the south below the base of the 1 and to the south within the upper loop, under the base and to the north above the ball of the 9.  Obverse 71 has developed light die flow lines and has acquired a clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AAU.

Reverse AAU is in a similar die state as Obverse 71, with the advancement of light die flow lines.  Reverse AAU has acquired a clash mark through the C of CENT from a clashing event with Obverse 71.  Reverse AAU develops the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the rim at 3:30 downward through the right wreath and through the middle arrowhead.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 6:30 through the arrow quill to the olive leaf above.

Comments:  Variety 72 was first identified by this author during mid December 2013.
