Type
II Obverse 10 is observed with date placement at RH, modertately heavy
die file marks by the ear and broken E of STATES.
Reverse L develops the following die crack:
1. Die crack from the rim at 3:45 through the olive leaf
above the middle arrowhead to the middle arrowhead.
Comments: Several
obverses through 1875 feature die file marks by the ear similar to that
of Type II Obverse 10 and seem to be associated with a procedural mint
operation. Type II Obverse 10 is the earliest example of these
die file marks thus far.
Type II Variety 7 was first identified
by Ed Nathanson, who submitted the above plate coin during early February 2018 for inclusion in
this book based on the die file marks of Type II Obverse 10.
