Type
II Obverse 11 is identified by date placement at C and date repunching
that features an initial date impression to the south within the lower
loop of the 6.
Reverse M is rotated approximately 9 degrees counter clockwise.
Comments:
The above plate coin is the 1860 Type II Snow 7 Plate Coin, of
which the obverse was attributed as exhibiting a repunched 6 of the
date. Within his attribution, Rick indicates that the artifacts
below the 6 are the result of the die maker attempting to remove parts
of the initial date impression from the working die; though the upper
loop of the initial date impression of the 6 still remains within the
lower loop of the final 6. I suspect that the artifacts within
the lower loop and below the 6 are localized areas of die rust and not
a genuine initial date impression. My theory is tenable based on
the presence of additional die rust below and to the right of the 8 and
below the 0.
