Comments:  Date placement is C.  Obverse 4 is observed with repunching to the southeast on all digits of the date, with a date position line visible to the left and right of the date and a date position marker in the denticles below the 4.  The 4 is minutely repunched, so I have focused attention on the 186, which show great separation from the primary digits of the date.  The reasonable explanation of this manner of repunching would be that the 4 was the pivot point of the date punch.  Die stage A is observed with a curved die line to the left of the date.  During die stage B, obverse 4 will clash with reverse X and develop a die crack through the bottom of  "OF AM" according to Rick Snow.  In addition, he states that during die stage C the crack and die line fade and a new die crack develops from the bust point to the U of UNITED and a rim cud develops above IT of UNITED.

Reverse X may be identified by a die chip at the central left edge of the E of CENT.  The reverse is rotated 8 degrees counter clockwise on the plate coin.  While rotated 8 degrees counter clockwise, reverse X will clash with obverse 4 .  This die rotation may be static for this die marriage and if so, all cents from this die pair will be rotated 8 degrees counter clockwise.   Reverse X develops a die crack at 11:00 through the left wreath and a die crack from the rim at 2:30 into the wreath, according to Rick Snow. The plate coin exhibits small die gouges off of the outer oak leaf at 9:30.

Plate Coin:  Richard Ashton, VF25
