Obverse 20 is observed with a high date, with date placement at RH and repunching to the north on the 18.  As with other obverses of 1864, obverse 20 features digit punch anomaly on the 4 that appears to be additional date repunching, but was actually a component of the digit punch.  In addition, vertical and horizontal date position lines are observed by the date.  Obverse 20 is noted with clash marks amongst feathers 7, 8 and 9.

Reverse AQ is rotated 14 degrees counter clockwise on the plate coin.  Reverse AQ clashes twice while in different degrees of rotation.  The clash marks are seen to the right of the denomination and are in a clockwise rotation, with just a few degrees between initial and subsequent die clashing.

Comments:  Lower grade coins may not show the minute repunching of the 18, but the high date may be an initial diagnostic to further examine the coin for further attributes of variety 20.  Reverse AQ's die clashing , if from obverse 20, would indicate dynamic die rotation.  I believe that the clash marks featured on both obverse and reverse are from a clashing event between these two obverse dies during the die marriage of variety 20.

Plate Coin:  D. Poliquin, G6
