Reverse AAAB Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 26 is identified by date placement at C, die chip below the designer's initial and date repunching that features an initial date impression to the east within the upper loop of the 8.  Obverse 26 has developed a clash mark in front of the eye of Miss Liberty from a clashing event with Reverse AAAB.

Reverse AAAB is rotated 6 degrees clockwise and has acquired two sets of clash marks through the C of CENT and to the right of the denomination from a clashing event with Obverse 26.  Reverse AAAB is observed with four die file marks by the denticles between 3:00 and 3:30 and a more prominent one at 2:00.  Reverse AAAB develops the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack from the right side of the shield downward through the wreath to a point at 2:15.
2.  Die crack from the rim at 2:15 downward through the right wreath connecting with die crack #3.
3.  Die crack from the rim at 4:00 through the bottom of the wreath to die crack #4.
4.  Die crack from the rim at 8:00 upward through the left wreath to a point at 10:30.
5.  Light die crack from the denticles at 8:30 upward through the left wreath to a point at 9:30.

Comments:  Reverse AAAB is extensively cracked, with the die cracking almost encompassing the entire wreath.  A second example of Variety 31 that resides in the same die state as the above plate coin and exhibits the same degree of reverse die cracking is located on the PCGS Coinfacts website for the red color designation for this date.

Variety 31 was first identified by Paul Nomes, who submitted the above plate coin during mid January 2019 for inclusion in this book based on the Reverse AAAB die cracking.
