Reverse AB Die Crack Mapping

Obverse 23 is observed with date placement at LE and has developed moderately heavy die flow lines.

Reverse AB is rotated 14 degrees counter clockwise and is in a similar die state as Obverse 23, with the advancement of moderately heavy die flow lines.  Reverse AB is observed with one diagonal die line and two vertical die lines from the bottom left side of the shield downward to the left of the (O)NE and into the (O)NE, respectively.  Reverse AB has developed the following die cracks:
1.  Die crack within the right wreath between 2:45 and 3:30.
2.  Heavy die crack from the rim at 8:00 through the left wreath to the upper left side of the shield.  This die crack becomes less severe as it approaches the top of the wreath.  Two light die cracks split from this die crack at 8:15 and continue downward through the ollive leaves.
3.  Light die crack from the denticles at 9:45 into the left wreath.
4.  Die crack from the denticles at 11:45 into the top left of the shield.

Comments:  A second example of Variety 28, which grades MS66RB, resides at the PCGS Coinfacts website for the red and brown color designation for this date.

Variety 28 was first identified by Paul Nomes, who submitted the above plate coin during early April 2019 for inclusion in this book based on the Reverse AB die cracking.
