Comments:  Variety 44 was first identified by David Killough, who submitted the above plate coin during late August 2019 for inclusion in this book based on the hub doubling of Obverse 49.  Examination of David's coin reveals minor Class II hub doubling on 'UNITED' and 'OF AMERICA', with the doubling on 'AMERICA' much less noticeable.

Reverse AX will later be in service paired with Obverse 57 during the 1898 Variety 52 Die Pairing.
